Vibrant colours of electric blue and funky orange add a modern twist in paradise. The stars have aligned as a beautiful new restaurant and cocktail lounge; Zenbah is stopping traffic in the hub of Mission Beach. Traditional French dishes have been given a modern Asian twist giving a WOW factor that I have not seen this far from the bright city lights, prices range from $14 to $30 for dinner. Head Chef Rudy Salomon inspired by his own French background has taken sweet, spicy and robust flavours to create a menu that will entice you to try something new each visit.
I have never been a huge seafood fan, but intrigued by fresh seafood caught right off Mission Beach, I started with an entrée of saffron infused scallop crepe with wilted spinach, cream of leek with mushroom and champagne sauce. Full of flavour, the unique marriage of mushroom and champagne changed my opinion on seafood forever; it would be a night of new discoveries. My main was fresh prawns, squid and mackerel paella with a caramelised onion compote, spinach and red onion salad. It was official – the season of spring has been interrupted with a modern summer twist on this Mediterranean classic. It was full of great flavours and beautifully presented. Inspired by the tropics, my dessert was a passionfruit bavouir with a coconut crisp and pawpaw coulis. I did not want to share my dessert, it was delicate and the chewy macaroon added crisp perfectly.
I was amazed by the impeccable service given as I sat on the terrace distracted by the tropical gardens surrounding me. It was a night to think outside the square and be adventurous with no hesitation. Do your tastebuds a favour and go to Zenbah (39 Porter Promenade, Mission Beach) to discover the new classics in Mission Beach.
