Mareeba Rock Wallaby

"mareeba rock wallaby" mareeba "atherton tablelands" queenslandAs mentioned in an earlier blog, Prof. Birdbrain is helping out at Eagles Nest Wildlife Hospital in the Tablelands for a few weeks and so the blog will focus on the bustling activity there for the next little while.

Eagles Nest is however, more than a hospital for sick and injured animals but also a haven for native wildlife, some attracted to the food supply provided to the patients, others to the shrubs and trees that adorn the garden. One such resident is the endangered Mareeba Rock Wallaby, of which approximately seventy free ranging specimens live here in total security. As Granite Gorge is the only known refuge of these small, furry marsupials, Eagles Nest is playing a critical role in the survival of this rare and little known species.

Professor Birdbrain is currently stationed at Eagles Nest Wildlife Hospital on the Tablelands.

Good luck and good birding
