South Mission Beach has glorious views to Dunk and Bedarra Islands plus the Family Group and Hinchinbrook Island to the south. Enjoy a relaxing laze on the beach or choose from a variety of water sports such as Jet Skiing or hire a tinnie to explore the islands on your own. The Edmund Kennedy walk starts at the southern end of the esplanade and the Old Mission Site is located on Mission Drive. A stinger net operates during the summer months and patrolled by Surf life Savers from the nearby Surf Club.
Wongaling Beach is your access point to Dunk Island and the Dunk Island Water Taxi departs daily in good weather. The Wongaling Beach shopping centre offers eateries, a Travel Centre for bus tickets and plus next door is Woolworths and BWS Mission Beach’s only petrol station. Restaurants are open at night and offer great views of Dunk Island.
Mix with the locals, enjoy a coffee or fresh juice at one of the many outdoor cafes. Watch the world go by Mission Beach style... slowly! Mission Beach has a surprising range of restaurants, bistros and bars to suit all tastes and budgets. Beachside resort and restaurant, galleries, fashion stores and beauty salons make up the eclectic ambience of the village. Live music is plentiful on the weekends and goes well with the cruisy Sunday Session.
Bingil Bay, a secluded bay just north of Mission Beach is a haven for artists, writers and musicians and you can find most of them at the Bingil Bay Café. Otherwise cook up freshly caught fish on the free beach barbecues or take in the walk to the top of Bicton Hill for awesome views of the Barnard and Dunk Islands while hopefully spotting a cassowary on the way.
